In Depth: What are the benefits of the Whole Life Skills© program?

The program engages participants to be proactive in reducing their risk of childhood overweight and

obesity.  This content is already being used throughout the network of the DC Metro YMCA Association in

conjunction with wellness programs aimed at increasing fitness and reducing childhood obesity.

The content is designed to be interactive, informational, and empowering.  The structure engages each

participant to discover personal relevance; individual experience is honored and central to program success.

Topics are customized for each developmental stage and address unique characteristics and challenges by age

grouping.

The program includes an organizational wellness component.  Consulting includes a food service

evaluation and staff training beyond the wellness team. The content is delivered in a supportive environment that

helps participants succeed in making beneficial food and lifestyle choices.

The special format assists young make beneficial choices in all areas of life: food, physical activity,

relationships, education (future career), and spirituality.  Our holistic approach recognizes the unique

circumstances of each participant as they consciously take the road of self-discovery as content explores The

group dynamic encourages acceptance, brings out individual talents, and demonstrates synergy of working

together.
